Writing: Think about your Seedfolk Story. Today, we worked on creating a "timeline" of tiny events in your short story/chapter to the book Seedfolk. You will need to sit and  try to write your draft out. It is only a quick draft, no pressure! try to sit and write for an hour or break it into two sections of 30 minutes. Sit in the sun if you can!

-You have your setting already (Cleveland, Gibb Street, the empty lot that became the garden)
-You should have an idea of your character along with his/her "story/past"
-You should have an idea of what your character is going to plant in the garden.
-You should have an idea of who your character interacts with from the book.

Reading: Read at least One Hour today!

May 13th

Math : Today we did a 22% reduction of human buildings that are considered "non essential". This will be building such as popcorn/pretzel stands, restaurants, and the hotel (not the kid camp center as parents would consider that will be essential).

We also are applying $176 per cubic foot of structures. You should have found all the volume of all structures and exhibits and apply the cost to each to have a total cost for human structures and total cost for animal exhibits.

Zoo Project: Make sure you are caught up on your blueprint! Email me with any questions you have!

Writing: Think about your Seedfolk Story. We discussed the openings of each seedstory in the book. They start with a mix of present day to pasts, to being near the garden or being away. How will your story start? Think about it being 3-4 sentences right now. Will it be dialogue, setting, actions, inner thinking in the present or in the past to have developed the background of your character.

Math Zoo Project:
Spring arrived and you now have an increase in your animal populations. Mammals 17%, Reptiles 9%, Amphibians 23%, Birds 14%   Use the formula %W=P to find the new number of animals you need to add to your exhibit then increase the square footage on your blueprint.

You will also need to calculate the volume of each of your exhibits and buildings. The heights are as follows:
All human buildings like restrooms, bathrooms, vet office, equipment room, pretzel/popcorn stands, restaurants are 12ft high.
Giraffe exhibit/housing is 35 ft tall, all other animal exhibits are 25ft tall.
Hotel/Kid Camp is 36ft tall.

Math: For Monday, you should have your "blue print" layout complete of your zoo, your list of all animals and buildings with sq ft noted and totals relative to each item ( Individual total for each mammal and then a total for all mammals).

Reading: Read Friday, Saturday, Sunday for more at least an hour each day in a novel. Be reflective of the book, Seedfolks. We finished reading it today and you should be thinking about it. What are the messages the author wants you to walk away with? Who was your favorite character? Why? Can you recall a few different characters and what they planted? What role they played in getting the garden up and running or even maintaining it?

May 7th

Math: You need to have a list of all animals and buildings and the amount of sq footage they are using. We made the columns in class.

Add your additions to your zoo today! We added a Vet. Center for 3,000sqft and you rolled for either a hotel 9,000sq ft or a camp learning center for kids at 10,000sq ft.

Butterfly House at 2,000sq ft
Nocturnal House at 3,000 sq ft.

Restaurants are 3,000 sq ft.
Popcorn and Pretzel stands are 500 sq ft. --you have to put 7 in your zoo whether you pretzel or popcorn.
